What We're Reading: Sloth Slept On by Frann Preston-Gannon - Review

C has a huge book collection and loves having a story read to him every night at bedtime so I thought I'd start a 'What We're Reading' series every Sunday to share some of our favourite books.

To start us off, we recently received a new picture book called 'Sloth Slept On'. 'Sloth Slept On' is written and illustrated by award-winning author Frann Preston-Gannon (The Journey Home, How to Lose a Lemur).

The plot of the story is that a group of children find a sloth in their garden but no one knows what animal it is so they set out to try and find out. Firstly, they try to imagine what sort of adventures the sloth has been on, maybe that's why he's so tired? One little girl finally discovers (using a book - instilling in children that books are important tools for learning) that he is a sloth and the children try their best to send him back home but they may not get it quite right! I really like that it teaches children to work together to solve their problems and discover how to send the sloth home. It also gives factual information about sloths thus educating your child on a new animal.

C has loved this book and the illustrations are beautiful. He loved the sloth dressed as a pirate and said 'arrr!' every time he saw him. This book is aimed for children aged 2-5 years old. C has only just turned 2 but he sits patiently listening to the words and looking at the pictures. I know this will be one of his favourite books for quite a while!

'Sloth Slept On' is published on October 16th by Pavilion Children's Book and retails at £10.99 (hardback).
