Num Noms #WackyBakers Challenge

I've reviewed Num Noms before on the blog and spoken about how much the kids and I love them. If you aren't familiar with them, they are cool little scented collectables which can be stacked to create flavour sensations.

With the Great British Bake Off being in full swing, we were tasked with getting the kids to do some Wacky Baking inspired by Num Noms. In preparation, we received a pack of Freezie Pop Num Noms, a mystery pot and both of my children got their very own chefs hat complete with cool Num Nom sticker. I spotted that one of the scents in our Freezie Pop pack was strawberry so I decided we would base our bake around that flavour as strawberries are the kids favourite fruit.

I must admit that we don't do an awful lot of baking at home (bad mummy!) so I wanted to keep in simple and opted for a strawberry cheesecake. I know, I'm cheating a little bit as it's not technically baking! C was really excited helping me find the ingredients at the supermarket and even told the checkout lady what he was making.

The strawberry cheesecake was so simple for the kids to help with. C broke some digestives in a bowl (really, I did most of this as he didn't like the feeling of them!) and I mixed it with some melted butter then placed it at the bottom of our 8" cake tin. I put some squeezy strawberry jam on the top of the biscuit base too. He helpfully scooped the cream cheese in and mixed in some caster sugar. We were a little naughty and didn't weigh any of it - I hoped for the best. After whipping the double cream, we folded it into the cheese and sugar mixture then added a little strawberry jam for flavour and red food colouring to give it a nice pink colour. C is obsessed with Halloween so he excitedly told me that it looks like "blood that vampires drink!" We spread our mixture over the top of the biscuit base and cut some strawberries to decorate the top before placing it in the fridge to set.

I did worry a little bit about how it would taste as I guessed measurements but it turned out beautifully! C really enjoyed making his own cheesecake and we will definitely be doing some more baking in the future!

Why not try your hand at some Num Noms inspired baking? You can find all of the flavours at the Num Noms website - I'm sure you'll find at least one that takes your fancy!
